Philanthropy Does Double Duty By: Sarah Artz
"There is no limit to the good you can do if only you don't need credit for it." This is the mantra Linda Bochert tries to live by every day in all facets of her life. In her professional life, Bochert is an attorney focused on environmental regulatory work at the law firm of Michael Best & Friedrich, LLP. In her personal life, she also volunteers her time through serving on the executive committee of A Fund For Women (AFFW).
Bochert became involved with AFFW because a good friend of hers happened to already be on the executive committee and thought Linda would bring value to the group. It has been five years since Bochert said "yes" and has since become co-chair of the donor development committee. When asked why she decided to become a volunteer and a donor for AFFW, Bochert explains it's the mission of AFFW that inspires her to be involved. "AFFW taught me there is a lot of good work that can be accomplished through placing a small amount of money in the right hands," Bochert said. "Over the years, I've seen firsthand how AFFW positively impacts the lives of women and girls in Dane County by providing essential support that complements and enhances the work local organizations are doing around important social issues." What has been especially appealing to Bochert is the ability for everyone to make a difference. "AFFW offers women from all economic situations the opportunity to be philanthropists," she explains. "You truly do not have to be wealthy to make a difference."
To Bochert, philanthropy plays an important role in not only the lives of the women and girls it serves, but also the donor herself. "For the recipient, her life is improved and her opportunities are increased," Bochert said. "To the philanthropist, you have a chance to play a meaningful role in helping to change another person's life."
In her free moments, Bochert enjoys spending time with her large family of two grown children, three grown stepchildren, and six grandchildren. You may also find her passing time skiing and snowshoeing in the winter or golfing, gardening, and canning fresh vegetables or making fruit jam in the summer.
